Knowing that the legal framework that regulates each of these professions can hinder the review of their respective scope of practice, we assessed the need to change the Portuguese law in order to allow adjustments in nursing staff tasks’ boundaries.

Despite the growing interest in the private health sector in low- and middle-income countries, little is known about physicians working outside the public sector. The present work adopts a mixed-methods approach to explore characteristics, working patterns, choices, and motivations of the physicians working exclusively for the private sector in the capital cities of Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, and Mozambique.

Primary health care reform and implications for the organizational culture of Health Center Groups in Portugal

The health sector’s increasing complexity poses major challenges for administrators. There is considerable consensus on workforce quality as a key determinant of success for any health reform. This study aimed to explore the changes introduced by an action-training intervention in the organizational culture of the 73 executive directors of Health Center Groups (ACES) in Portugal during the primary health care reform. The study covers two periods, before and after the one-year ACES training, during which the data were collected and analyzed.
